Fashion Week Findings
Womenswear fashion week was quite the whirlwind. Forget the runways, we’re looking at fashion week street style to discover what the trendsetters are actually wearing. When it comes to staying a step ahead of the “trend curve” you’ve gotta go to where the heavy hitters hangout, where the influencers are taking their flicks for Insta and keep an eye out as to who the paparazzi are taking pics of. Here’s some items we noticed when we weren’t watching the runway.
Oversized Leather Jackets
Even though it was women’s week, we noticed a lot of masculine silhouettes. Mostly, oversized moto jackets, leather bombers and leather trenches. This Men’s Leather Trench from Suncolour is a good example of some of the leather trenches we saw this fashion week. Since it’s men’s, think of sizing down, otherwise it’s just on trend with the oversized, Matrix look we saw a lot of. Another leather jacket we kept seeing was the oversized moto jacket. Often it was paired with a simple bralette or bandeau top for that high-low contrast of masculine and feminine silhouettes. This Track Biker Motorcycle Jacket from Jackets For Bikes is a perfect example of the kind of moto jacket we saw a lot of. The racer stripes were very popular and this jacket paired nicely with a tailored pair of pants and chunky combat boots.
Platform Heels
On the other hand, we saw a lot of feminine footwear. We couldn’t help but notice how many women, and even some men (think Rick Owens platform boots) were indulging in the platform heel trend. These patent leather peep-toe platform heels from Steve Madden were often seen paired with colorful, patterned tights and miniskirts. This pair of Cypress Fashion Boots also from Steve Madden were a huuuge hit as well. It seemed like the higher the platform, the better. We also saw some lingering Y2K style platforms like these Vivianly Open Toe Platforms. Colors like lavender and electric neon green were perfect for the SS 23 presentations.
Lingerie Accents
As we mentioned before, there was a lot of contrast and mixture of feminine and masculine accents. We saw lots of lingerie influence on the streets of Paris during Fashion Week. Lace bralettes, slip skirts and even full on nightgowns were paired with sneakers, combat boots and oversized blazers. These Sheer Mesh Bralettes from Varsmiss and these Silk Satin Triangle Bralettes from SilRiver are some of the kinds of lingerie we saw sitting in the front row. Leave it up to the French to take lingerie to the streets and make it fashion. It was chic, stylish and most importantly, still classy.
What happens when the most fashionable people in the world get together? They create an endless buffet of fashion inspiration. There were so many inspiring looks at Fashion Week but we couldn’t help but notice a few trends that stuck out and were too good not to mention. Oversized leather moto jackets and Matrix-inspired trenches, sky-high platform heels and boots mixed with lingerie accents made for an interesting mix of trends, but somehow they work. We can’t wait to bring these styles stateside and put our own spin on them. Which fashion week finding are you trying this season?
