Amidulce Bakery
There's a good reason that this San Francisco gem is one of our favorite places to score quality, creative and unique baked goods. The story of Amidulce Bakery (@amidulcecakes), is one of childhood dreams and a passion for creating delectable delights. Owner and baker, Andrea Quinsay, had always dreamed of owning her own bakery and Amidulce is the manifestation of that dream. The name Amidulce is a fusion of "amigos'' (friends) and "dulce" (sweet) in Spanish, reflecting the essence of her bakery's mission – creating sweet moments for friends and loved ones.
Amidulce Bakery stands out in San Francisco's competitive food scene with its dedication to custom themed cupcakes and cookies. About 90% of Andrea’s creations are uniquely designed to cater to each customer's vision. The process is a collaborative one, where customers share their ideas, preferences, and themes, Andrea transforms them into edible works of art. This personalized touch makes Amidulce's cupcakes and cookies not just delicious treats but memorable, heartfelt gifts. Additionally, Amidulce Bakery proudly offers a taste of Latino-inspired flavors like Gansito, Chocolate Abuelita, and Tres Leches, a reflection of the owner's rich cultural background.
The challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic didn’t deter the spirit of Amidulce Bakery. In fact, it provided an opportunity for growth and adaptation. During the initial phase of the pandemic, when many businesses struggled to stay afloat, Amidulce Bakery leveraged social media and giveaways to reach out to the community. Andrea says, “I had barely opened up my business when COVID hit. But I took advantage of that time to practice my baking and decorating skills from home. I posted on social media, promoted it through giveaways. Since not many bakeries were open, people started to order my baked goods.”
What’s even greater than customizable cookies? Well, it’s what Andrea would call a #sustainableslay. Any “odds and ends,” and any leftover cake tops or fillings and icing that wasn’t used during the week are turned into cake cups sold at an affordable price and cut back on food waste. A slay indeed, if we do say so ourselves.
