What’s in my Car?

Last time we linked up we discussed various items I keep in my bag. Things like beauty items, masks, etc. You remember, you were there! This time around I got to thinking about how our purses are like extensions of our closets. We select items that are valuable enough, items that are necessities that we can’t bear to leave at home. I realized the same goes for my car, my little Audi that I consider to be a top-tier accessory in itself and also matches my personality the way a pair of shoes would or the sharpest winged eyeliner. Over the years I have accumulated items that I’ve found must be kept in my trunk. Things like feminine products, a lint roller, bleach pen and an extra box of masks are among the items I keep in my trunk but there are a few other things I want to highlight that I consider to be essential.

1. Extra Clothes

We never know where we’re going to be (or who we’re going to run into) on any given day. We also can never anticipate an accidental spill or stain, that’s why I always keep an extra basic black or white t-shirt in my trunk basket just in case I need to make an emergency costume change. A couple of Oversize T-Shirts from TopShop currently reside in the back of my car. They’re the perfect t-shirt silhouette and will match perfectly with any outfit I’m sure to have on.

2. Nail Kit

Second item worth mentioning is a travel nail kit complete with a file, nail clippers and cuticle clippers. Much like the extra t-shirts, a nail kit will come in handy more than you would think for inconvenient hangnails or maybe even an acrylic that popped off, if you’re anything like me, you understand. The Tweezerman Mini Nail Rescue Kit is the perfect pocket-sized set for your trunk basket.

3. Wipes

Yes, wipes. Not just for sticky situations, but also for disinfecting and for makeup. Keep a pack of Purell wipes to use for disinfecting and cleansing hands maybe after a meal or after you’ve touched less than cleanly surfaces. Of course makeup wipes are a must for fixing makeup mistakes or if you need to start fresh before you go on that date or back into the workplace after lunch. For on-the-go makeup wipes I like to conserve space and keep a few Kopari Coconut Melt Wipes in my car at all times. I love these because they’re individually wrapped and are biodegradable as well.

4. Razors

Keeping a box of drugstore razors with a moisture strip has been a lifesaver and I’ll tell you why and I’m going to keep it real. I have been in the position where I forgot to shave before a date and that date led to...well you know where it led to. Having a pack of razors in my trunk that I could quickly grab and do a quick shave in the bathroom was a lot of help to me. I totally support the natural hair growth movement, to each their own, but personally it's not for me and that’s exactly the reason why razors have found their way in my car as an essential.

5. Mouthwash and Other Things

I wanted to group the remaining three items in this last slot because they’re smaller items but necessities nonetheless. First, mouthwash and this is self-explanatory. Great for a quick freshening up and for after meals as well. Along with this I keep disposable toothbrushes which are great for the same reasons and they come with a built-in toothpick. Second, I always keep something like Aleve in my basket for something like a headache or sore throat, because those things do happen and most of the time we’re unprepared. Finally, perfume. I keep a bottle of perfume in my basket just to have so I can spruce up if needed.

That’s it, that’s my list of trunk essentials. I have perfected the trunk basket over the years and let me tell you there isn’t one situation I’m not prepared for. As for the basket itself I like a soft cloth one that I can tuck into the corner of my trunk. This Goodee x Makaua basket is perfect; it's fashionable and it has handles which is convenient for taking in and out of the car. So what did you think of my list? Did I forget anything? Do you have a similar basket? Does yours also have an unexplainable random bottle of tequila? Let me know in the comments and see you next week.

Sincerely,
The Closet Correspondent
