Fendi Couture 2021 - Kim Jones’ Debut
They say first impressions are everything, they’re something you never forget and that was every bit true for Kim Jones’ Fendi couture debut. Kim Jones is Karl Lagerfeld’s replacement for the iconic brand and he failed to disappoint. Jones is also Dior Men’s Creative Director and everyone was curious to see how he would step in for the late Lagerfeld in his new position and we can safely speak for everyone when we say he hit the ground running and presented Fendi’s ‘21 couture collection.
The show itself started off iconically. Forgetting the gorgeously crafted off-the-shoulder bell sleeve top and dramatic chest length chandelier earrings, we were stunned that none other than the exemplary Demi Moore opened the Fendi show. Her jet black hair pulled delicately to the back and those killer cheekbones were all we could exclaim over! Demi Moore told Naomi Campbell on “No Filter with Naomi,” that it was a childhood dream come true. Moore told Campbell, who also walked in the show that, “Truly, it didn’t hit me until afterwards that it was really a teenage fantasy fulfilled.” The 58 year old mother of three daughters continued to note that she was walking the show with other iconic supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlingtton and Kate Moss. Indeed the show kept us on our toes as one after another iconic model made their way down the runway.
Other familiar faces made a return to the runway as well. Bella Hadid, Lila Moss, Cara Delevigne, and Adwoa Aboah hit the catwalk wearing Kim Jones’ newest creations. Seeing the Moss mother/daughter duo was a full circle moment; seeing Lila Moss who is a spitting image of her gorgeous mother reminded us of a young Kate in her prime confidently walking down the runway. It was as if Kim Jones used all of the tricks he had up his sleeve. Iconic supermodels: check! Iconic actress and fashion icon: check! Mother/daughter models: check! Sparkle: check! Besides the obvious eye candy and nostalgic fan favorites making their return the clothes themselves were stunning.
The theme of the show was restrained glamour. With embellishments on floor length gowns, off the shoulder deconstructed blazers and skirts and oversized coats and capes (yes, capes are here) we had much to feast our eyes upon once we got over our initial shock of the model cast. In this case, it wasn’t just the models who “made” the show, it was the clothes as well. One did not overshadow the other but rather worked together to present a phenomenal presentattoin of couture that only Kim Jones could deliver. If you haven’t witnessed the genius for yourself, we suggest you remedy that ASAP! Happy fashion season!
