Wellness Ideas
It seems like every time we get on our laptops, phones and basically any and every social media platform there is a new wellness trend (or fad) being pushed in our faces. Whether it's an ad or an A-list celebrity promoting a new wellness brand or site, we often lose track of which trends are effective and more importantly, worth our time even trying. Well, if you feel the same way and are simply jaded with this whole wellness thing like we are then you’re in luck. We researched some of the most talked about trends and narrowed down a list of three that we think are actually worth looking into.
One trend that health gurus and celebrities can’t seem to get enough of is the use of matcha in their everyday diet. Now we’ve had the occasional matcha latte from Starbucks and we have to admit, they are delicious and go great with our aesthetic of Ugg boots and Alo Yoga leggings, but is there more to this green powder than just appearing to be chic? After doing some research we found that matcha is fast becoming a great alternative to your morning cup of coffee. Matcha, when using it in its purest form and sadly not the powder from your local Dunkin’ Donuts, improves focus, attention and your memory. When used consistently, as in drinking it everyday the long term benefits only get better. You can lose weight, lower blood pressure, balance your metabolism and boost your overall mood. Hmm now we think we’re beginning to understand why everyone holding a matcha latte seems to be in such good spirits...
Another wellness and beauty trend that we have been really into is facial yoga by way of using gua sha and other facial toning tools. We’ve talked before about the benefits of gua sha and why it’s not only beneficial for facial toning but also for lymphatic drainage as well. Gua sha is used to improve circulation, relieve muscle pain and promote anti aging benefits. The great thing about gua sha is that you can use it anywhere on your body, not just exclusively your face. We recommend using a stainless steel gua sha as opposed to a rose quartz or marble one because they aren’t as porous and don’t hold bacteria between uses. Remember to always use a moisturizer, oil or lotion before applying pressure with your gua sha to ensure you protect your skin.
Have you heard the viral internet term, “hot girls have stomach issues,” or “hot girls have IBS?” Well it’s kind of a clever attempt to raise awareness about women’s gut health issues. We all know, or have ourselves been that one, to always be complaining of a stomach ache or a headache and if you don’t fall into either of these categories then keep scrolling. Research has shown that your gut health is linked to our brain function and that the chemical serotonin is actually created in our gut and feeds into our brain. So, happy stomach, happy human. Using supplements such as probiotics and prebiotics feed our tummies the natural bacteria that it needs to digest our food and turn it into the good stuff that in turn feeds our minds. We think that this may be the most important wellness trend that is going to take off this year. Which one of these trends will you be trying, if not all three? Fashion is chic but so is keeping healthy.
