We Meet Again: The Miniskirt

It seems like my closet is always in a state of being overly stuffed and with every season I try to donate and clean out as much as I can before new items take their place. Yet I realized that there was one item that was absent. One teeny tiny garment that was missing from my drawers. Was it hiding somewhere? Was it in the laundry basket I’ve neglected the last few days? Was it under my bed? No, no and definitely no. What I’m looking for is the much coveted miniskirt. Apparently I don’t own one, which was surprising to me because I literally have six different black slip dresses, twelve pairs of washed denim jeans and eight white button down shirts but alas no miniskirt of any kind. Of course I had to remedy this situation, so I took out my laptop and went shopping and this is what I found…

The Leather Mini

A little bit trendy but also a little bit grunge, I love that combo in this miniskirt from TopShop. The Eliesse Faux Leather Miniskirt features a midrise fit with a small but flirtatious slit on the side.

I would pair this skirt with a pair of cowboy boots and a band tee perfect for a summer night on a rooftop bar.

The Denim Mini

Usually I shy away from this item but I decided to give the denim mini skirt a fair chance with the Destructed Cut Off Denim Mini Skirt from Aqua. I love the shade of light denim this has and I also really like the distressing and raw hem of this skirt.

Normally I would style this casually with a pair of white trainers but I actually styled this with a pair of square toe pumps and a black bodysuit for a casual night out with friends and I liked the more “dressed up” approach.

The Hi-Lo Mini

This Asymmetric Drawstring Skirt from Alexander Wang.t is so special to me. It's made out of this soft satin material but it's unique in its ‘high-low’ silhouette and has this kind of train that falls from the side of your hips. This skirt is one of my favorites on this list because it is so unique.

I wore this skirt the other day to run errands and I simply styled it with a pair of 90s inspired running shoes and white t-shirt and I got so many compliments on this outfit, I can’t wait to wear it again.

The Animal Print Mini

Another hit mini skirt from Aqua that I had to include on this list is the Smocked Mini Skirt in this great leopard print. I usually don’t gravitate towards leopard print items but I wanted to try something fun and different and I really liked the previous skirt I purchased from the brand Aqua.

This skirt is also kind of a layered ruffle style which I found to be light hearted and fun and it's an easy pull-on style waistband that is also really comfortable. I styled this skirt with a basic black pullover turtleneck sweater and some ballet flats for a quick coffee date.

The Skort

Bet you forgot all about “skorts” didn’t you? So did I and then I saw this one on Bloomingdales.com and had to see what it was about. I used to wear these all the time in elementary school and let me tell you, this was so comfortable to wear. I purchased the Hidden Pocket High Rise Skort from Hue and wore it to a sports themed birthday party in the park. I wanted to be cute and chic but functional.

I loved pairing this with a pair of trainers and a crewneck sweatshirt. The added hidden phone pocket was also a game changer. The mini skirt may be “mini” but it’s come back in a big, big way so naturally I had to remedy my lacking situation and purchase five all at once. Which one was your favorite? Sound off below! Until next time.

Sincerely,

Kailyn Chadwick
