Off-Duty Model Style
Every generation has their set of “supermodels.” Perhaps yours is this generation with your Hadid sisters, Hailey Beiber and Kendal Jenner. Maybe your era was the Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista era. Or maybe you don’t really give a damn about models. There’s always that possibility as well. For the sake of this article let’s say you do care. You can’t deny that these supermodels have a certain je ne sais quoi on and off the runway. It’s a certain laid back, cool girl style that seems so effortless but extremely chic. How do they do it? Is it really that easy to be so chill and seemingly unexcited? We did some digging and here’s what we found.
For starters, it’s all about the attitude. Be confident and trust us, it shows. That’s only half the work. If you feel good then you will certainly look good so walk with your head held high as if you’re on the runway yourself and believe that the rest will follow. These models are “off-duty,” yes, but they are still models and carry that with them. Even if you’re not feeling your greatest, and believe us when we say we all have those days, it's called fake it ‘til you make it, meaning the more you self-assure yourself, the more confident you will become. Think you got that down? You’re halfway there.
So what exactly is “off-duty model style?” For some this may bring up very vivid images of skinny jeans, ankle boots and trendy leather jackets with maybe some sort of statement necklace. You’re not wrong, this is in fact where that term came from was this very specific look from the early 2010s. However, now the term has taken on a whole new meaning that is more vague than it is specific. Now the off-duty look can mean statement jackets, monochromatic looks, menswear, leather and platform boots. The list goes on and on and on but what we take from it is that it's making a statement that favors fashion forward moments and we’re going to share a few with you.
Monochromatic Madness
You can’t go wrong with a monochromatic look. Pick a color, any color and design your outfit head to toe around that color. Have fun with textures and print and get creative. Keeping the look cohesive with one color but in different tones is a great styling trick and an even easier rule of thumb for those days where we “have nothing to wear.”
Leather Lover
Leather is the greatest subtle but not-so-subtle materials. You can really make a statement with a pair of leather boots, pants or even a trench coat. As soon as leather is an outfit option just assume your entire outfit is about to get upgraded. Make a trendy statement by throwing on a pair of leather stiletto boots or go for a 90s vibe and don a leather blazer. You can never really go wrong with leather and its sure to make an unforgettable outfit.
Menswear
Diane Keaton was way ahead of her time with the whole menswear style. Now it seems everyone is trying to emulate the fashion icon and her oversized menswear style. Oversized pinstripe pants, vests, oversized blazers and of course the mens white button up are all worthy heavy hitters for mastering this style. Take a cue from Bella Hadid and show off that midriff under an oversize jacket or from Irina Shayk and combine the monochromatic look with menswear pieces.
You know who loves a good chunky boot? Besides us of course, is Kourtney Kardashian. It's very rare to see someone so famous repeat the same shoes or even outfit twice but we notice that Kourtney K. loves her some chunky Prada combat boots. Of course, we know she isn’t a model but she does have that off-duty style down pat. This chunky sole boot trend is seen everywhere nowadays and we love that they’re so versatile - you can literally wear them with anything from a miniskirt to denim or even your Sunday best. Do you think you have what it takes to master the “off-duty model” look? Hopefully this list cleared up some myths and pointed you in the right direction. Now all you need is a killer walk and to master that “resting pissed-off” face. Happy strutting!
