Trending: 90s Hairstyles

Fashion is cyclical, but you already know this. Trends come and go, so are we ever really out of style? Or are we actually just too early or too late to get on board with a trend. Whether you follow trends or steer clear of them, you can’t deny that some of these hairstyles from the 90s are making a comeback and for good reason too. We’re not talking about “the Rachel,” or the crimped waves of past. We’re channeling something more subtle this summer and you should too.

The Messy Bun But Make it Millennial

Looking to update that tired, messy bun? Take a cue from Gwyneth Paltrow or Jennifer Lopez circa 1996 and let down some of those face framing pieces allowing them to seductively fall on either side. It’s intentional but without trying too hard and flirtatious without being obvious.

Butterfly Clips

Another trend we’ve noticed throughout Instagram, Pinterest and basically any cool girl on the street is the use of hair accessories. Yes, those plastic bobbles, satin ribbon and our personal favorite: butterfly clips. A 90s classic, butterfly clips can literally be found in any beauty store or dare we say, yes, a Claire’s. You remember Claire’s right? Christen your head with this trending accessory from sites such as Urban Outfitters, Target or our personal favorite Etsy.

The “Claw” Clip

Speaking of clips, the oversized hair claw clip is also apparently back in style. Perhaps it never left? Because we know we still use our claw clip to quickly get our hair out of our face when we’re working out, cooking or are having a lazy day around the house. I guess now we’re taking our clip out on the town because it seems to be back in style. Pull your hair back into a low bun and let some fly away strands fall into your face for a playful vibe. A classic look straight outta the 90s. We’re here for it.

Reach for the Sky Ponytail

How, how could we almost forget the sky-high pony? Seen on models and actresses from every runway and every TV sitcom, this high ponytail hairstyle is making a hard comeback and who else to revive this trend than Kim K herself. Scene bopping around town and on her show Keeping Up, we see Kim channeling her inner Tyra Banks by pulling her long brown locks into a sky-high ponytail and securing her side swept bangs with a large, black hair barrettes. We can’t think of a better way to revive this classic.

Double Braids

Perhaps the most juvenile, maybe even childlike style, the double braids has become a go-to casual hairstyle. During the summer, when it's too hot to do too much of anything, this quick style is great, especially if you have long hair. Wanna switch it up a bit? Try two dutch braids or French braids to elevate your looks. Oh and don’t forget the butterfly clips ;). And on that note, we’ve got you covered for the rest of summer. Hell, with this list you practically have a different hair look for everyday of the week. Except for the weekends, we’ll leave that for you to figure out.
