The Most Playful Accessory

Probably the most underrated accessory, the scarf is actually the most versatile accessory you could invest in. Knowing us and who we are, you know we can’t own just one, but rather one for every outfit, occasion and mood. A scarf is an item that we would consider a closet essential because you can wear and style it in so, so many ways. Whether it's on your head, around your neck or even on your wrist, we’ve got some great ideas we want to share with you when it comes to this most playful accessory. Let’s get to it.

Take It From The Top

Where to begin when there’s so many options? Let’s work from the top down. This Open Edit Print Square Scarf is probably the most versatile to work with. For one this scarf comes in eight different prints and patterns, so you have options to choose from for any look you're trying to create. This silk scarf is about the size of a traditional bandana which means it's very thin and easy to style. You could ideally fold this scarf into three sections and make it into a slim accessory to tie around your neck like an ascot or even a chic choker. By doing this you're adding a bit of flair to your outfit. You could even use this as a hair piece by tying it around your head like a headband or around the base of your ponytail as a stylish hair accessory.

Wait, There’s More?

Next, we want to talk about other ways to wear a scarf that go way beyond the traditional function of just wearing one to keep warm. By choosing a larger scarf you’re only expanding the ways you can utilize it. This Robin Piccone Pareo Cover Up scarf is the perfect example. This scarf is lightweight, sheer and perfect in more ways than one. For one, you can wear this as a beach cover up by tying it to the waist in a tight knot on the side of your hip. You could also wear this as a traditional scarf around the neck or what we like to do with this item is to wear it as a shawl dropping below the shoulders for a flirtatious vibe. Similarly we love this Cotton and Linen Sarong Scarf from Madewell. We could wear this as a cover up or a sarong but we like this less transparent option to actually wear as a skirt! Another favorite in this category is this tropical floral scarf, the Bella Psychedelic Cover Up Sarong which we would also wear not only as a cover up but also tied around the chest to make for a chic and playful strapless dress.

What’s the Skinny?

Another way to style a scarf that may or may not be on your radar is to wear it on your wrist in place of a bracelet. A scarf such as this one from Kate Spade, the Garden Patch Silk Bandana is thin enough to wrap around your wrist and instantly become a unique accessory. This fun floral silk scarf has a funky animated print that can instantly elevate not only your arm but your entire look. On that same note we also love this classic Burberry Vintage Check Mulberry Silk Skinny Scarf. This scarf is ideal for this bracelet look we’re talking about. It’s already very skinny so you don’t need to fold it to make it into a slim bracelet. This scarf is also perfect for wearing around your neck or as a hair accessory as we mentioned before. Despite these alternative ways of wearing scarves, we also have some favorites that we call on for those more chilly days. This All Saints Leopard Scarf and this Goodee x Ezcaray Matisse Stripe Mohair and Wool Scarf are two scarves that are perfect for those colder seasons. Each has a fun print and made of temperature regulating materials that keep you toasty when the weather had other plans. So take your pick, which way are you wearing a scarf this summer? Let us know in the comments box. Until next time.

Sincerely,
Kailyn Chadwick, the Closet Correspondent
