Style Watch: Tracee Ellis Ross
Type in “Tracee Ellis Ross style” on Google and you’ll find results such as: “fashion inspiration,” “style crush,” and unsurprisingly “fashion icon.” Click “images” and you will find looks. Lots and lots of color and looks. Tracee Ellis Ross has become a household name for her hair care line Pattern, her hit show Black-ish and for her fashion sense. Duh. You already knew all of that though. Ross, who is also the daughter of another icon, Diana Ross, has become a big name when it comes to fashion and style. She’s known for wearing bold colors and silhouettes as well as some very striking sculptural pieces from brands like Schiapparelli and Michael Kors.
Whether she’s on the red carpet or walking in a women’s march, Tracee always keeps things fun, colorful and full of her joyful energy. We wanted to take this moment to appreciate some of our favorite looks from the trend-setting actress as well as how you can recreate some of her magic yourself. Keep reading to see what we’ve rounded up.
White Sequin Magic
Tracee wore this Caroline Herrera all-white sequin suit to a pre-Golden Globes party in January of 2019. A few years later and obviously we’re still obsessed with this look. It wouldn't be a Tracee Ross signature without the Nike Air Force 1s and those iconic curls the actress is known for. As for recreating this look on our own terms? We’re taking the One-Button Satin Blazer from Club Monaco and pairing it with these 4th & Reckless Henry Joggers. Not quite a Caroline H. look but we’re taking that casual nod that Ross added to her look and mimicking that with a more relaxed bottom.
Green with Envy
One thing Tracee Ellis Ross is going to do, is wear color. She is known for wearing bright pinks, oranges and yellows but we’re obsessed with this all green number consisting of a button down shirt and pleated bottoms. Where else would we find such a great image than Tracee’s very own Instagram, this monochromatic look has us trying to imitate this outfit by pairing the Performance Oversize Shirt from Zella with the Abbott Utility Linen Pants from Joie. Yes, we are aware this is the “toned down” version of Ross’ ensemble but this more subdued version is still just as Instagram worthy in our opinion.
Pretty in Pink
Did we mention Ross loves color? We can’t help but think she inherited this from her fabulous mother, the Diana Ross. So we had to add this all pink moment to our list of favourite looks from Tracee. What’s even better is that we almost love the alternative to this look just as much as the original. We have a couple of options in recreating this moment. One, this pink organza blouse from Zara gives us that same fluffy, light silhouette that Ross’ Giambattista Valli haute couture gown is serving. Option number two is a Vintage Maude Slip from Reformation which perfectly mimics that feisty shade of pink Ross wears so well. Goodness, goodness! That is how we would describe Tracee Ellis Ross’ style. It’s just too good. Full of color and shape, Ross will always keep us guessing what she’s going to wear next and where she’s going to wear it. That’s a tongue twister for ya. This brief list has shown us she can rock a suit, keep us green with envy and that for her, haute couture is just another outfit for a day at the office. What are some of your favorite Tracee Ellis Ross moments? Perhaps we need to do a “part two” and continue this list another time. Until then, happy shopping ;).
