Simple Ways to Display/Organize Jewelry

They say that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. That is until they try to organize their jewelry drawer then it’s a different story. I find jewelry to be the trickiest thing to organize because everything is so small and I can never seem to find room for my growing collection of necklaces, rings, bracelets, etc. Just like our closets, our jewelry collection is always growing with every new piece that we purchase, so how can we anticipate how large our collection will be and how can we create the space needed to accommodate that? I’m going to share with you a few creative ways to approach and solve this issue one DIY way at a time.

My first tip, I’ve been using since college and there’s a reason for that: it simply works. I’m one who likes to display my necklaces. I think my necklace collection is so pretty, glittering in golds and silvers with cross pendants and jade Buddha figures, it’s something I want to show off. I tried buying the necklace stands from sites such as Amazon or stores like Target, Marshall’s, etc. but I never felt like my little necklace babies were being shown off properly and they were also never big enough to store them all. I quickly and easily solved this problem with a simple household item: the push pin. In my wardrobe I have the option to leave the doors open or closed to show off my hanging closet and on the inside of the doors I have simply pressed push pins into the wood and hung my necklaces. This way I have control of how many push pins I need for each necklace and it’s also an easier (and cheaper) way to display them because i can create new space for the “newcomers.”

Rings. Rings are tricky because they are so tiny and we have multiple rings for multiple fingers that are all different sizes. I’ve tried those “hand mannequins” where you can hang rings off of the fingers and that lasted about a month because I literally ran out of finger space to hang my rings! I’ve even tried a tray, a bowl and ended up throwing my rings in a sad makeup bag. I want to show off my jewelry, not hide it away so I came up with yet another creative display idea using another household item. I had this three tier serving platter that I used to use for things like candies, nuts and other small goodies. Turns out this serving dish was also good for holding and displaying my rings. I organized my rings by size, smallest to large on each of the three separate tiers. Now each size ring has its own place and I have plenty of room for my growing collection.

If you’re like me then you are dealing with a smaller living space, so everything needs to have a double function. Meaning, if you’re going to display something like jewelry then it also needs to do it in a way so that it doubles as decor and storage. This brings me to my final jewelry storage/display tip. Take a wooden hanger and head to your garage or your local hardware store and pick up some screws with the hook head end.

Screw the hook-head screws (say that 3x fast), into the underside of the wooden hanger. Voila! You have your very own, homemade hanging jewelry mobile. Hang bracelets, necklaces and anklets from a one-of-a-kind jewelry display and storage that can be hung from the ceiling, a curtain rod or the inside of a door. Another creative tip is to paint and decorate the hanger in a fun color or design that works with your existing decor. There you have it, three easy, cheap and fun ways to create storage for your jewelry collection. Make sure to comment and leave any questions or topic ideas you want me to answer next!
