Purses: The New Junk Drawer ….
What do you keep in there, anyway? A question many women have been hearing throughout the ages when asked about our bags or purses. Even the smaller ones tend to get filled with crap over time. I was clearing out my closet last week and found one stowed away in the back that I had forgotten I even had. It is turquoise and black in a snake-skin print that I picked up a few years ago at snazzy boutique shop in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Loved it then, love it still. I knew I wanted to put it back into circulation, at once.
First, I dumped the contents onto my bed and couldn’t quite make sense of the eclectic array of garbage that emerged: four pennies, two nickels, one dime, a click-pen from my bank which was missing a spring, a stale and hardened pack of gum, the paper wrapping from a straw, a dried-up tube of mascara, an old dry-cleaning receipt so worn down and tattered the print was illegible, a travel-size aspirin bottle, an empty tube of lipgloss, a nail file from the Merry-maids, and a tube of lemon-scented hand cream given to me as a free gift for the holidays from the lovely Korean woman who does my pedicures.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
I have two junk drawers which irritate me if and when I even consider them. Thankfully, I am able to close them from my view and thereby, my awareness. One is in my kitchen and the other is in my nightstand. I like to think of myself as a neat and organized individual, and in many ways, I am. Just please, please: Do not ask to look into my purse. What do I keep in there? In short, everything—and a whole bunch of nothing.
