Our Low Maintenance Skin Care Routine

Taking care of our skin is a big priority for us over here at Style Sonata. Skincare isn’t just some superficial regimen we adhere to for the sake of glowing gorgeous skin, although that is a big part of it too. Our skin is the largest organ to cover our bodies so it’s crucial that we not only tend to its appearance but it’s overall upkeep as well.

It’s come to our attention that there’s a lot of hype around skincare when in reality it should be quite simple. We want to clear up all of the “shoulds” that surround skincare with our simple five step morning skincare routine that we think covers all the bases and makes for a solid and effective morning skincare regimen.

The obvious first step in our routine is easy: cleanse. Cleansing your skin of all of the toxins that you accumulated the previous day is an essential first step of your new regimen. Start by washing your face with a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type. This will remove any dirt, oil, or makeup that has accumulated on your skin. Use lukewarm water to avoid stripping your skin of natural oils.

The second step is to exfoliate but be cautious to not do this every morning or evening.If you have oily or combination skin, you may benefit from exfoliating once or twice a week as this will help remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. However, be careful not to overdo it as over-exfoliation can irritate your skin and actually tear the pores you’re working so hard to protect and preserve.

After cleansing, use a toner to balance your skin's pH level and prepare it for moisturizing. Toners can also help remove any residual dirt or makeup and there is a wide variety of toners on the market as of late. From toners infused with vitamins and antioxidants to toning lotions, there is quite literally a toner for every skin type.

Perhaps our favorite step of our skincare routine follows the toning step and that’s moisturizing. Apply a moisturizer that suits your skin type to keep your skin hydrated and supple. If you have oily skin, opt for a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer. If you have dry skin, choose a heavier cream or lotion. Moisturizer basically acts like a sealing protection agent to set all of the previous steps.

Finally, the most crucial step is to apply an SPF on top of your moisturizer or you can find a decent two-in-one to kill two birds with one stone. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Sunscreen is crucial in preventing premature aging and reducing the risk of skin cancer and remember that even on overcast days it’s important to wear your SPF.

Keep in mind that our skin radiates what we have going on within so remember to also stay hydrated, eat a healthy diet, and get enough sleep to maintain healthy skin.
