Bridging The Seasons
Cassatt Plunge Neck Cotton Voile Minidress
Summer may soon be on it’s way out, but it's certainly still heating up! Living in California, the temperatures seem to rise and drop week-to-week and it leaves us unsure on how to style our outfits one day to the next. Should we take a chance and wear shorts and bring a cardigan? Will jeans and a sweatshirt be too hot today? Who the hell knows?! We can get dressed in one town and by the time we’re in another it feels like we’re living in two completely different weather zones. So how do we combat these fickle patterns of hot and cold, cloudy and then suddenly sunny? More importantly, how do we navigate these unfair terms in a fashionable way? Let us introduce you to the summer dress.
Okay, an introduction is a bit dramatic seeing as everyone already knows the “summer dress,” but we want to refresh your memory and tell you a few tips, and a few recommendations for styling this summer essential. Now to begin, we love a summer dress because it's the winter equivalent of sweatpants and pajamas. Meaning, summer dresses serve the same purpose your favorite sweatsuit does: it's comfortable, quick to throw on and you own the same one in a variety of colors. The difference between the summer day gown and your sweatpants is that the dress is wayyy cuter. Summer dresses are also easier to put on (technically speaking), and harder to take off because once you find the perfect fit, you won’t want to take it off.

The summer dress evokes an image of effortlessness, comfort and something natural. This dress is freeing but it can also be sweet, seductive and even nostalgic. It’s range is wide, and styling it with your favorite pair of work boots or a summer heel or even a stiletto, can change the direction of this chic frock from summer sweetheart to summer vixen. As for options for this warm weather garment, there is an endless supply.
For starters, there’s the white linen or cotton option which we imagine is something similar to what Marie Antoinette wore on her Queen’s Hamlet, frolicking through Le Petit Trianon grounds picking wild flowers. There’s something classic and pure about this option and with its endless options of sleeves, lengths and embroidery it's a must-have staple for the summer. Then there’s the wrap dress. This dress is versatile, it can go from the workplace to drinks after work with a change of lipstick and accessories. Our favorites come in satin or silk to keep us cool throughout the day regardless of what activity we’re doing.
We love this Halogen Long Sleeve Wrap Dress, it comes in three summer gown to combat the hottest of days, then a cami style dress is the go-to option for you. The lack of material is guaranteed to keep you cool and looking chic. One of our favorites is a Vince Satin Midi Slip dress. This lighter than air dress crafted from Japanese satin, is an essential summer smock currently hanging in our closet. We practically wear this dress everyday, but don’t worry, we avoid outfit repeating at all costs but with the versatility of this garment no one even notices. Paired with gladiator sandals and some bohemian jewelry and we achieve the epitome of summer festival fashion, but add a belt cinched at the waist and some open-toe mules and you’re ready for lunch downtown with loved ones.
We think you get the point, the point being that you needed an essential summer dress like yesterday. Don’t worry, summer’s not over yet and you still have time to decide which version of this warm-weather conqueror you’re going to recruit for your summer wardrobe. Will it be a classic white cure-all? Or perhaps a sexy satin midi? Maybe you will have to invest in one of each and then some, to know which is your favorite and if that’s the casen then the more the merrier!
