Bermuda Called…They Want Their Shorts Back!
While walking around, completing errands at our local outdoor shopping center, (mask on of course) we noticed an unlikely new trend. Come to think of it, we noticed this trend down at the beach, the grocery store and we’ve been seeing it make an appearance in our magazines as well. The “Bermuda” short has made its way to us and we gave it a shot and decided it's worthy of our mention and is a trend we’d like to see stick around.
The Bermuda can be a tricky short to style. We prefer a looser fit compared to the tighter, more “biker short” style because we feel that wearing khaki or denim biker shorts isn’t the most comfortable choice. We want comfort, we don’t want to appear to be in agony because we’re wearing ill-fitting clothes. We also want to be stylish, and wearing a looser fit of the Bermuda can come off as frumpy, almost like you’re wearing your dad’s vacation shorts or your mother’s field trip escort shorts. No, we want to be a cool mom, a cool mom in her chic knee grazing, modern Bermuda shorts with a killer lipstick and accessories to match. With that being said we have rounded up some suggestions and a couple of tips for styling this fast growing trend.
"Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing."
—Alexander Wang
We think that styling this short is all about balance. We wouldn’t style our loose fitting Bermuda shorts with an oversize linen top or band tee. To avoid an unshapely look we would spring for a more flattering top, something that contrasts the roomy short situation we have down below. Perhaps a bodysuit to accentuate your figure while your denim Bermudas are cinched around your waist with a statement belt or an extremely chic top featuring exposed shoulders or a decorative, criss cross detailing on the neckline. We’re thinking modern up top to offset the unshapely casual short on the bottom.
We always have your back and will point you in the right direction, so here are a few of our favorites to get you started with this cool and comfortable summer trend. Looking for a more modern take on the Bermuda, we love these Vero Moda Paulina Faux Leather shorts. These shorts rise mid-waist and their smooth polished faux leather look is an edgy take on oversized short. Pair them with some sexy pumps for a date night with the hubby or some simple white trainers for lunch with the girls. Either way, we love this contemporary take on the Bermuda short. Next, we want to offer a more laid-back option, the Vince Drapey Silk Shorts are the perfect khaki color that we look for in a Bermuda short. It’s pleated detailing and silk material work together to make this loose short comfortable as well as a chic option for almost any occasion. We like to pair these with a strappy sandal and white tank to elevate these shorts to the next level. Moving on to the next level, we are obsessed with these sateen, midnight blue Bermudas that just graze the knee. These Staud Noah Pleated Bermuda Shorts can be worn casually or even paired with a matching dinner jacket for a more tailored suited look. We like the oversized fit of this short, but it’s the romantic blue that really catches the eye.
What do you ladies think? Does the Bermuda short remind you too much of dad’s weekend shorts? Or, are you taking this recycled, familiar trend to the next level like we are and finding a more modern approach? You know where we stand, we love the Bermuda short. Not only is it stylish but it's also so comfortable and functional, it keeps us cool during these wicked hot summer days. Oh well, we’ve made our argument, it's up to you now to pick a side, but if we had to bet on it, we’d bet that you’re on the right side of summer and keeping cool in the Bermuda short.
