Le Marais

Imagine this. It's sunny and warm and you’ve finished school, work-from-home responsibilities and you just want to get out and get some vitamin D. Perhaps you throw on your favorite pair of Frame denim and Madewell tee and you head out to grab a cup of coffee and maybe a chocolate croissant. Where are you headed? I’ll tell you where I’m going, it's a personal favorite of mine here in the Bay Area. No, this isn’t an #ad, but rather a place that serves many purposes for me. It’s called Le Marais.

I absolutely adore Paris and have visited many times. I bet you didn’t know my second language is French and that I dedicated six years of my life to the language and the culture. Having a father who works for an airline doesn’t hurt either ;). I’ve also stayed in the Marais district and it is one of the most liveliest and fashionable neighborhoods in Paris. Full of cafes, restaurants, the Picasso museum and amazing thrift and vintage stores, it’s hard to not fall in love with the area.

So, a couple of years ago, as I was strolling down Chestnut Street in our very own San Francisco, I happened upon Le Marais and obviously I had to check it out. It’s a quaint Parisian inspired cafe that serves coffee, pastries and even a full menu of food with items such as Croque Monsieur and supd’oignon. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, you really feel for a minute that you’re in a French neighborhood and you’re just another regular. My personal favourites are the Market Salad with chicken and an iced coffee.

I find that I’m the type of person who when I find a place I really love and find solace in, I keep returning to that place. Something about a clear SF day and being among people who are doing the same thing I am, brings me comfort. It doesn’t matter if I’m people watching or sipping coffee and scrolling through my emails or Instagram, its nice to be out where things are simply happening. Especially in a time where Covid-19 has separated us all but it's something we're all experiencing together and have in common...it’s kind of ironic isn’t it?Le Marais makes me feel that“normalcy”that everyone is always talking about and yearning for. It’s as familiar to me as my own closet and I’ll cling to it until regulations allow otherwise.
Sincerely,
The Closet Correspondent
