The 5 Kosas of the Self!
If you happened to catch our last beauty article where we highlighted clean beauty brand ILIA then you know our interests in makeup have been lingering towards cruelty-free products. And it's not just us, it seems the beauty industry as a whole is making a turn in this direction which we think is pretty great. Especially with celebrities like Miranda Kerr and Kourtney Kardashian spearheading this movement, it's creating this wonderful new market of clean beauty products. So, with that being said, today we’re looking at Kosas, a brand that is bridging the gap between skincare and makeup. Kosas takes its name from the philosophy that there are 5 “kosas” of the self: physical, sensory mental, intellectual, truthful bliss and finally an energy layer. Already we love that this brand is also focused on things that are literally more than skin deep. We want to highlight three products that give us a low-maintenance look and make us feel fearless and just plain like ourselves.
So, with any look we have to begin with the base. The Kosas Tinted Face Oil is described as the “sweatpants of foundation,” hearing this we were already intrigued to give it a try. The product boasts that it contains six active botanical oils that include: avocado oil for moisture, meadowfoam oil for plumping, raspberry oil for repairing, jojoba oil for soothing, camellia oil for balance, and rosehip oil for brightening. The oil has ten different shades that provide a variety of options for all skin tones and delivers a velvety finish every time. Let’s remember that this is a facial oil, so the consistency is that of an oil but it provides coverage like a foundation while allowing your skin to breathe and repair itself while you’re wearing it. Given that its an oil, that means you can apply it the same way you would a serum or any other facial oil. Simply massage 2-4 drops into your face using your fingertips, or if you want more coverage use a sponge or face brush to blend the product. Voila! It's that easy and that quick.
Now we want to amp up our look a bit using one of Kosas Color & Light Palettes. We’re using Papaya 1972 for a neutral-peachy look. These palettes come in six different shade options that range from a pink all the way to deep bronze tone. The palette contains a blush and highlighter shade that can be used to brighten and bring some shape to your face. Similar to the Kosas Face Oil, the ingredients in the palettes are good for your skin and can be used to blend, brighten and build. We like that we can have fun with this product. Meaning we can use minimal highlighter and just apply to the traditional areas or apply wherever we want to create illumination. For our look today, we’re going to swipe the peachy blush over the apples of our cheeks and use a brush to do so. Then we’ll use the same brush to swipe some highlighter on top of our cheek bones, the upper lip, and just under our eyebrows, right on the bone. And that’s it, our face is glowing in all the right places and we swear we can feel our skin soaking in all of the nutrients this palette and face oil contain. Now, onto our pout.
For our lips we decided to stick with our general theme of a peachy-nude vibe. Our face has that natural glow and glisten in all the right places so our lips are going to have that same energy. Kosas Weightless Lip Color selection contains jojoba oil, shea butter, rosehip seed oil, sweet orange oil (for scent) and green tea seed oil for natural healing. Basically, we’re treating our lips with the same treatment we gave to the rest of our face. We’re going to use the shade Vegas, one of eleven different shades offered. Vegas is Kosas signature nude that they recommend for everyday wear but if you desire richer colors they offer pink shades, red shades and two intensely dark browns. All of the yummy oils in this product keep our lips moisturized all day. Its coverage is like a lipstick but feel free to re-apply throughout the day as needed just as you would with a normal chapstick. After all it's Vegas baby, have fun with it.

There we go, our look is complete. It's natural and it's nourishing and we feel so good knowing our skin is being taken care of every time we use products from Kosas. Looking at all the time we saved with this morning routine we’d even consider checking out some other products from Kosas. Products like their volumizing mascara or brightening concealer.
