Breaking Badass
When it comes to the fashion world, there are rules or should we say laws. Just like the real world, some people choose to obey and others are law breakers. Either way, we choose one or the other and sometimes we’re commended for it and other times we’re outright shunned. Laws such as, “no white after Labor Day,” or, “don’t wear denim on denim,” are some examples of these decrees that can get us in hot water if broken. Who made these rules? When did we all collectively decide that not matching your belt to your shoes was just a normal standard that we should abide by? Like a vampire burns in sunlight will we evaporate if our loafers don’t match our belt? No, of course not! Now we say that rules are meant to be broken so let’s break all these damn restraints and guidelines and really go for it.
If you’re a rule follower but want to step out of bounds, we can start small for you. Let us begin with accessories, teeny tiny adorations to enhance our outfit. Also, small ways for us show the world or who’s watching at least, who we are as if accessories are the subtitles to our outfit. Are you familiar with the rule saying you can’t mix metals? You know, no mixing silver and gold. Some think it's tacky or it's too inconsistent and others follow blindly what the masses say, but we think it's ridiculous and simply not true. Besides, who are you going to listen to? Them or us, your resident style experts. Even though we want to shatter this to mix or not to mix myth, there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about this and we want to give you three tips for properly debunking this fashion “no-no.”
"I always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect, they are much more interesting."

We like to think of our upper body having three sections when it comes to accessorizing: the head, the neck and the hands. When mixing metals lets designate each section with a metal. It's simple enough but are you following? For instance, you want to alternate gold and silver, let’s adorn our ears with our Curve Earring, the most adorable yet chic light-as-air accessory that will never go out of style. In fact this accessory goes with everything. Now let's work our way down to the neck where we can really have some fun. Following our alternating pattern, let’s use gold accessories here. We suggest layering necklaces with varying styles, lengths and texture but sticking to the gold metal. Our Prizm Choker is a good base necklace to begin with or end with if layering isn’t your thing. If you wear rings and/or bracelets, we can really have some fun. Bring silver back into the picture and we propose stacked rings or some fun bangles to tie your look together and to successfully complete your mix and match layering.

Rule #1 was the hardest and from here out it is smooth sailing or should we say, “layering.”
Our second tip is to be aware of your outfit. The color top that you’re wearing can influence what metals to wear. For example, if you’re wearing a white tee or white button down, you may want to balance out your cool tones with some warmer ones like gold or rose gold. Noticing how these tones play off of each other can make layering that much easier.

Finally, our last offering is to have fun and in the end it’s your style and it’s your chance to express yourself through fashion. We wanted to offer you our recommendations but its like we said before, rules are meant to be broken, so don’t feel pressured to follow ours but rather make your own. That’s when the real fun begins.
