Carine Roitfeld Style
“In fashion, it’s always better to be an interesting person than a beautiful one. Character is much more fascinating than pure good looks.” - Carine Roitfeld
The queen of French fashion, or perhaps just the queen of fashion period, Carine Roitfeld’s style is unmistakable. The former Vogue Paris editor has mastered the effortlessly classic style that Parisian women are famous for. Never seen in flats or sneakers but always in heels and pencil skirts, Carine Roitfeld sets the blueprint for tastefully seductive elegance. Giving us tips like sleeping in our makeup and her iconic signature “undone” hair style, makes us feel like we can too, achieve this upper echelon of style, but first we have to look at the essentials first.
Let’s start from the feet and move upward from there. Ms. Roitfeld is alway seen in a killer stiletto and black tights. We feel like this is the secret to capturing that alluring, sexy look we see in practically every photo of the French stylist. The Brook Sheer Mesh Stiletto Pumps from Malone Souliers paired with Commando’s Opaque Control Tights are the perfect combination in our recreation of a typical Roitfeld look. In general, any chic pump will do, but for us we’re sticking with a classic black base to build our look upon and this leaves us with room to have fun up top.
Next up, yeah you guessed it, our pencil skirt. We’ve seen Carine have fun with color, length, texture and a good and high slit so we’re going to follow her lead and do the same. For this look we’re going to have fun with patterns. We’re choosing the Versace Leopard Print Pencil Skirt because it has a more neutral leopard pattern tone and really pops against our black tights and pumps. Carine Roitfeld is known for wearing crisp, white classic button down shirts so we’re going to pay homage to that and wear the Poplin Button-Down Shirt from Natori. Unbutton the first two or three buttons and add a statement necklace for a bit of glam and allure and you’re set.
It really is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Shoes, check. Skirt, check. Classic and flirty top, double-check. The key is to not overcomplicate things, and to have that French confidence, that self assuredness that you’re fabulous and feel good in what you’re wearing. The rest will come naturally, and how couldn’t it? When you’re dressed this stunning your inner Carine Roitfeldi s guaranteed to shine through.
