5 Fran Fine Outfits We’d Wear Today
The voice, the hair, the outfits! Yes, we are so happy to hear that The Nanny has found a new home on HBOmax and it seems like Millennials and Gen Z have rediscovered the joy that is Nanny Fine. For those of you who may live or have lived under a rock, The Nanny was a hit TV sitcom on CBS from 1993-1999. The show followed Fran Drescher or “Fran Fine” as she worked as a nanny for three upper class children and their widowed father. Throughout the total of 146 episodes and 6 seasons, we watched Fran Fine stun and even shock in many of her outfit choices. We got to thinking that as we rewatched the hit television show, we wouldn't mind reviving some of these looks. So here are a few outfits straight from The Nanny that we can’t ignore or seem to forget.
Moschino Nanny
Many of the outfits Fran Fine wore were from luxury designers such as Herve Leger, Bob Mackie, and a lot, A LOT of Moschino pre-Jeremy Scott. The bold Moschino prints are hard to miss and while rewatching the series there were many times we had to press pause, grab our phone and double-check what we were really seeing. For the sake of this list, we’re going to say that any and every Moschino look the Nanny wore deserves to be on it. From checkered skirts, rainbow tops and mini heart-shaped purses - Fran Fine had taste and range.
Versace Nanny
One look we need to recreate for ourselves, is this Versace moment. A purple holographic Versace mini-dress paired with a totally 90s backwards baseball cap makes this look an instant classic. The costume design for Fran Fine has become extremely recognizable throughout the decades and even today’s celebrities cite her wardrobe as inspiration. We imagine Dua Lipa herself has found some fashion inspiration from the nanny from Flushing, Queens. We also couldn’t help but notice the holographic trend on runways of late also reviving this futuristic vibe.
Stunner Nanny
We couldn't leave that gown off the list could we? Bob Mackie himself lent his talents to the hit show. In one episode we spied with our little eye a floor length gown that Bob Mackie designed. If this dress looks familiar, you’re not mistaken. Madonna also wore it to the Academy Awards in 1991. Known for outfitting Cher, RuPaul, Elton John and Diana Ross, we imagine it was an honor for Fran to be dressed in such a stunning gown but an historic designer. Fun fact: Bob Mackie also lent another sequined gown to the show; a yellow and white halter dress that Sharon Stone wore in Casino in 1996.
Clueless Nanny
Look familiar? A bit of Cher Horowitz perhaps? This tartan Anna Sui get-up with yellow check pattern and fur cuffed jacket is definitely giving us Clueless vibes. The Nanny gave us glamour, she gave us fashion and it's evident that she also made it impossible for anyone to ever wear a suit again. Ever. This ensemble may not be on other “best of” lists, but it's on ours as well as our Pinterest board for work-from-home outfits. You can find this outfit on the “Canasta Masta” episode.
Va-Va Voom Nanny
If Fran Fine was going to do one thing, it’s that she’s going to show out. She showed up to work every single day in a different outfit (she never “outfit repeated”) and she definitely knew how to dress for her figure. Oftentimes her uniform was always a miniskirt and a form-fitting top. This Jean Paul Gaulter top and Azzedine Alaia denim skirt is the perfect example of that uniform. One word to describe the nanny Fran Fine? Va-Va-Voom. That’s one word right? Whether its one or three words, we only have one thing to tell you: go watch The Nanny.
