3 for Three - Tracee Ellis Ross
She’s oh so funny, whip smart and incredibly talented just to name a few things. Tracee Ellis Ross who is known for her role on the hit TV show Black-Ish and of course for being the daughter of singer Diana Ross, has made quite the name for herself in Hollywood and probably even more so for her amazing sense of style on and off the red carpet. Known for wearing striking sculptural outfits and never one to stay away from color, we had to take the time to talk about some of our favorite looks from this multifaceted powerhouse of a woman.
Look 1:
K: Ooooo Bunny I’m excited for this. Tracee’s style is right up your fashion alley. I’ve known you’ve been talking about this for a long time and you’re a big admirer of Tracee’s style.
B: You know, I love Tracee because she is so entertaining and that carries over into her style as well. She seems so authentic and unafraid to be her funny and sometimes goofy self, she’s also very intelligent...in my head we’re best friends. HA!
K: For me this look is a lot, but at the same time only Tracee could pull this off. The puff sleeves and “hammer time” parachute pants are something I would really be turned off by. However the sculptural red earrings only add fuel to that “too much-ness” but it works??
B: I see what you’re saying, the outfit is very in-your-face but that’s what Tracee is all about, she puts it all out there via her style. It's fun, it’s big and it’s like go big or go home. I think it's all or nothing for Tracee and if you’re going to commit to a look you have to go alllllll the way and she does that.
K: True however my minimalist brain is having a hard time processing this look but at the same time on Ms. Ellis Ross, I give her kudos for doing things her way.
Look 2:
B: It seems very rare that we see a street style flick of Tracee. It’s refreshing to see a more casual ‘fit from her, something that we could see ourselves wearing. It’s like she’s more of a “mere mortal” like the rest of us who are just trying to reach her level of cool.
K: Totally, it's something that I would try and find for myself online. I love the contrast of the wool suit and Chanel trainers. The neon pops in the shoes and the shirt and I love that latex bag as well. It’s a great model for those who want to master the “hi-lo” streetwear look.
B: She still keeps that “Tracee” element. That element of color that I love so much about her and she dialed it down a few notches and the result is this laid-back, relaxed but chic look that any of us could wear in our day-to-day. You know I love a good accessory so I find that bag adds great texture and those gold hoops are such a subtle but nice touch. Bravo Tracee.
Look 3:
K: A lot to unpack here with this oversized look. There’s color, size, texture...am I
missing something Bunny?
B: A lot going on, almost like an impressionist painting you really have to look at each piece individually. However, I think you know what I’m about to say to you Kailyn...it works. It works and I don’t know how or why.
K: Not my style at all but I can objectively say that it does in fact work. The culmination of the pleated skirt and the cropped blazer layered over another blazer - it just works for me! It's like you have to commit to chaos and throw all of these components that wouldn’t work separately but together they just work.
B: This look is like an English prep school uniform but make it couture. I love the color, I love the hair and she’s truly someone who could look good in practically everything which has only been made apparent in these three looks we talked about today.
K: 3 for 3, not bad Tracee, not bad at all.
