We all know the definition of this word, GRACE:
- Unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification
- A virtue coming from God
- A state of sanctification enjoyed through divine assistance
What this word means to me, however, is a bit more personal and interactive. It is an action verb as well as a spiritual place. Coming from a Catholic background I was fortunate to have the privilege to be educated by Dominican nuns. One thing that was forever being emphasized was how much our actions can affect others. You may have your own religious beliefs however we are ALWAYS to be respectful and open to those of others. GRACE is not a religious word ONLY. Grace can be how you handle an uncomfortable situation, how you rise above conflict, how you are sensitive to others situations but most of all that you show compassion.
If this world educated in childhood the importance of having GRACE I truly believe we would have less conflict. GRACE is helpful when you are faced with a dilemma as you can separate yourself and be objective as you are exercising this virtue to be the bigger person. The key is to be able to utilize this virtue under stress. That is where discipline comes in. It is very unselfish to be graceful and it can at times fall on deaf ears but in the end GRACE wins. If you look at things through a long-term scope it is not always about you or who is right. This quote is the perfect example.
"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." -- Charles R. Swindoll
In the end people remember how you made them feel and THAT is up to you. If you act in GRACE, everyone wins.
