Not Your Grandmother’s Lace

by Bunny Fayne |

Lace – so beautifully, delicate and simple, and so intricate in design and labor-of-love intensive to create.

If you grew up in an Old World family, you’re undoubtedly very familiar with lace, either in the form of your grandmother’s doilies or the dainty hankies that your great-aunt always had on hand.

It would also be tough to find a little girl who when dreaming of her wedding day, hasn’t figured the perfect lace bridal gown into her fantasy, future walk down the aisle.
There’s a reason the vintage fabric comes back season after season in fashion. It’s not only a timeless trend, it is very arguable, the loveliest of all.

Today’s lace fashions are light years away from doilies, and so in your face popular, you’ll find it impossible not to embrace lace.

This spring and summer, lacy frocks in black, white and beautiful colors from bold to pastel, will be the every occasion dress that will ensure that you will never look out of place.

Don’t think strictly bridal when it comes to lace dresses in white and cream, as there is no look that is more sophisticatedly simple on a hot summer day or evening.
The key to effortlessly sporting lace during the day is to keep things simple and basic. A lace pencil skirt paired to a classic button-down, a lace top worn under a blazerlace shorts with a tee, or simple lace-trimmed pieces. Pairing lace items with structured pieces like tailored trousers are a good way to tone down their sweet nature.
It’s crucial to pick your lace carefully, because it can get cheap-looking quickly, so make sure to choose high-quality material.

There are few things sexier than lingerie looks with lace detail that are meant to be worn out of the bedroom. If you want to sex up your lace in a more subtle way, slip a lace camisole under your blouse so you can show a bit of skin without giving it all away.
Finally, wearing a sheer, white lace skirt or dress over jeans with white sneakersis the ultimate fashion fusion of tomboy with new, old-fashioned feminine.

“I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature; lace always evokes for me those incomparable designs which the branches and leaves of trees embroider across the sky, and I do not think that any invention of the human spirit could have a more graceful or precise origin.” ~Coco Chanel~
