Work It!

Stop and recognize – it is summer! That means you can plant yourself poolside or oceanside with a large, icy drink in your hand - looking uber stylish, of course, wearing your favorite sundress, swimsuit, cover-up, or shorts and tank top. Even if you’re spending many of these hot summer days at work, you can still express your summer style. Loose, tunic-like dresses and shifts say professional and summer at the same time. They are generally more comfortable than fitted styles when the weather is warm, but proportion is the key to looking streamlined and professional. As we have mentioned here before, shirtdresses are trending big time, and a shirtdress in cotton or silk is perfect summer work wear. T-shirts in high-quality cotton or a cotton/linen blend will keep their shape and keep you comfortable at the same time. A good quality T-shirt can look professional when paired with a long, silk skirt or dressy trousers. If you plan on wearing anything sleeveless, like a sheath dress, make sure to bring a light cardigan with you. While it may be scorching outside, the air-conditioning in your building may be on full blast and nobody wants to spend the day with teeth chattering and goose bumps. Keeping a spare cardigan in your desk drawer is a great way to ensure that you’re covered no matter what. Shawls are another wonderful way to keep warm and the perfect addition to take a daytime outfit straight into evening. Still on the subject of sleeveless looks, make sure to invest in a convertible bra to keep your straps from being on display and to accommodate different necklines. Finally, flip flops are always an office no-no, but stack-heeled sandals will cool your tootsies and keep them more comfortable than closed-toe heels.
