YOLO -- Lessons Learnt on the Trail
Posted on November 13 2017
I don't know what is in the water ... or the air, but I have been craving the outdoors like an addictive, lurring drug. Someone whispered in my ear about hiking a few weeks ago, and it has been top of mind ever since. I happen to live in close proximity to some of the best trails in town, so this week I decided to christen one of them.
I heard about the Eaton Canyon hiking trail and the magical waterfall that trickled at the end of a 4+ mile journey. I've been tracking my steps with some cool fitness trackers lately, and saw this as a great chance to get to steppin'. While soaking in all that fresh air, I must have gotten high off the O2; I had the most enlightening epiphany about life and goals and the definition of success. I thought I'd share before the feeling passed! ;-)
There is no one definition of success. Success is a feeling and a state of mind. It's really about the journey ... the hike. Family, friends, loved ones ... they make the journey sweeter. If you've achieved it all, but have no one to share it with, or great memories along the way ... was it worth it?
Don't get caught up with society's characterizations and prescriptions of things. Stand firm in who you are and what's true to you. Society has been wrong about many things.
Leave your own mark. Make them remember you. You don't always need the spotlight to shine.
Go chase those waterfalls. Sorry TLC ... there's so much beyond the rivers and lakes that we're used to. Most importantly, any destination worth getting to will more than likely require a hike. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, watch the signs, listen to the advice of those who've done it before, don't be afraid to try your own path ... and you'll get there. And it will be worth it.
And finally ... YOLO! Took me 6 years to finally get up and see this magical place, 10 minutes away from me. No more waiting for that beacon moment!
For my kindred spirits who love being active and outdoors, I want to introduce you to FitJewels, which has an amazing line of wearable fitness accessories ... with a little stylish zing. The universe answered my prayers with these! xoxo
