Some girls just have it. You know what we’re talking about, we’re talking about that effortlessly chic, cool girl style. That style where it seems like we simply threw an outfit together and that we didn’t put any effort in but somehow our look is so put together and fabulous. There’s one cool girl in particular that’s been on our radar for some time now that has this process down so well we had to acknowledge her and how much she inspires our own “cool girl” style, and that is Zoe Kravitz.

The 31-year-old actress, singer, model and face of Yves Saint Laurent has garnered quite the reputation for her style efforts for years now. It’s not really a surprise since she is after all the daughter of actress Lisa Bonet and rockstar Lenny Kravitz, who are also fashion icons in their own rite. Zoe is known for being the frontwoman of her band Lolawolf as well as a lead role in Big Little Lies. Aside from these roles, and a recurring role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Zoe is always a must-watch celebrity for her stunning looks at the Met Gala and hanging with besties such as Alexander Wang and ASAP Rocky.

Her style off-screen is known to be sexy, edgy, and with just the right amount of glam. She’s known for her dozens and dozens of dainty tattoos that pay homage to celestial signs, and the infamous MLK Jr. quote, free at last etched into her forearm. When it comes to her hair, her signature elbow grazing braids are a favorite but she is known for also rocking a shaved and bleached cut that we all wish we had the confidence to rock. And that’s just what makes us love Zoe so much is her confidence that she seems to exude no matter what hairstyle or outfit she decides to commit to.

So how do we do it? How do we do cool girl style like the ultimate cool girl that is Zoe Kravitz? We’ve picked up on a few key elements that Zoe seems to never neglect in her wardrobe that are essential if we’re going to master this effortlessly chic vibe and the good news is you too can achieve this look with a few of these items. So, let’s start with the vintage tee. The vintage rock t-shirt is something that Kravitz incorporates into her casual, day-to-day look or even when spotted at music festivals. The vintage tee is something you can never have too many of, in fact you can opt for a vintage music tee, a vintage slogan tee or even a plain, aged t-shirt in your favorite color. Our favorite vintage tee of the moment is this Def Leppard Hysteria Tour Graphic Tee from Daydreamer.

Zoe seems to be the expert when it comes to mixing vintage or thrifted pieces with newer, more glamorous items. It’s that mastering of “high-low” style that makes her style so effortless, but how does she do it? It’s actually quite simple, we can start by taking a foundational piece of an outfit such as shoes, pants or a coat and offset it with a more casual piece. For example we love these Akris Punto Frey Paperbag Waist Faux Leather Culottes paired with this Balenciaga Campaign Logo Oversize Cotton Hoodie. The contrast between the leather culottes and the faded oversized hoodie make for the ideal high-low outfit combo. We would pair these with some comfortable trainers and add a pair of chic sunnies like these Cat Eye Sunglasses from Bottega Veneta, which is another favorite of Zoe’s

Another element of Zoe’s style that we can’t ignore is her love of color. Zoe isn’t afraid of color in the least and it’s something that we absolutely love about her style. Oftentimes we see Zoe incorporate color in the form of a statement piece. If you’re gonna go bold you might as well do it in a big way right? She’s been seen rocking a bright statement bag, neon green pants and even a bright blue suede duster overcoat. Decide on a piece of your look that you really want to pop and have fun with it. What’s your favorite color? Or, even better, what’s a color you’ve always been afraid of? Is green not really a go-to? Try these Back Seam Thong Toe Tights from Wolford under a denim skirt or this Saks Potts Saya Shimmer Top to get out of your comfort zone. How about yellow? We love this Fendi x Sarah Coleman Canvas Shoulder Bag with the classic monogram Fendi print and introducing color in small ways but with a statement piece such as a bag or a scarf is a great technique if you’re not used to color.

Vintage tee? Check. High-low pieces? Check. Sunglasses? Check. Colorful statements? Check. What else is missing from our Zoe Kravitz cool girl checklist? Oh right, shaved and bleached haircut? That one’s up to you.
