Women & Menswear

Women’s relationship with menswear is a tale as old as time. For years and years women have been stealing their husband’s blazers, boyfriend’s hoodies and their father’s neckties. Diane Keaton is famous for her take on masculine clothing and others like Princess Diana, Julia Roberts and Kristen Stewart have been known to rock a men’s suit. We figured we would check in with Bunny and Kailyn and their take on the trend.

When it comes to fashion, do either of you lean towards a more traditionally feminine or masculine style?

Bunny: What a loaded question! Truly. For myself, I’m a more classic style. I adhere to my own style which from day to day I would describe as casual but I accessorize you know? I always wear my watch, a bracelet or two, my necklace and perhaps a ring or two. I appreciate masculine silhouettes though...the construction of a structured blazer or a classic white shirt.

Kailyn: I agree with Bunny on the masculine silhouettes. I love men’s shirts and blazers too. I also love men’s trousers although I often have to tailor them. I think I’m about 50/50 for this one. I can totally do the masculine thing and then turn around the next day and wear a dress or a skirt or something. Sometimes it's just a mood I’m in.

Bunny: Yes definitely agree with dressing for different moods too. I also want to say that the traditional rules of dressing are kind of out the door. There’s not really any designation anymore on female or masculine dressing. It wasn't always like this. It's great!

Kailyn: It is so great but perhaps not for my bank account now that there are twice the options, ha!

What is your favorite garment to borrow from a man or the men’s department?

Bunny: Hmmm...I’d have to say I love a good old classic white button down shirt. You know? Sometimes I like to wear my husband’s or even have one of my own because they don’t have that “female” silhouette, it's a straight fit. It's more relaxed and in a way more casual. I love the BOSS Myron Sharp Fit Shirt. I like to wear it with the sleeves rolled up and the first buttons undone for a casual feel.

Kailyn: I love that Bunny, it's so fresh but put together. You can’t beat a classic white shirt. Well, Bunny kind of took my answer! So, I’ll go with my second choice you can’t beat which is a men’s oversize blazer. They make so many for women now as well so you have unlimited options but my favorite take on the men’s blazer is this 4th & Reckless Aiden Blazer. It's heavy, which I love, and it's very structural just like a men’s blazer. I have a few men’s blazers that I stole from my dad, including the Valentino jacket he wore to his wedding.

Bunny: What a great memory to have from a garment! I bet it's very cool for your dad to see you wear that. Very “full circle moment.”

Kailyn: Yes. Also, if he could still fit in it, I’m not sure he would have given it to me, but thankfully he can’t, haha!

Do you think it’s easier to shop as a woman or a man?

Bunny: I feel like men have few options compared to women, although I think that’s changing a bit. With women you have so many choices to make from lingerie to jewelry and all of that stuff. However, men’s accessories have expanded so much, so it’s kind of hard to say.

Kailyn: I think that generally speaking most men are driven by what they need to buy. Driven by necessity, so they have fewer choices to make but women are driven by trends, so they shop more often. That’s just a general observation because I agree with Bunny that men’s approach to fashion has changed a lot.

Bunny: Now women have to keep up with men and women’s trends. Whew! Hard to keep up.

Kailyn: Yes hard to keep up but thankfully Style Sonata has all of those trends covered, ha!
