Who’s Wearing What?
It may not seem like it but our sense of fashion and style has changed dramatically since we entered into a global quarantine only a little over a year ago. Now we’re on the other side and can’t help but notice how our sense of style has changed and possibly evolved (or gone backwards?) now that we’re slowly but surely opening up. Being the style anthropologists that we are we’ve noticed a few trends that have been hitting the streets.
You don’t have to be a scientist to see that people have adapted a new approach to personal style. Before things began to open up we wore professional tops and sweatpants to Zoom meetings and only got “cute” when filming a Tik Tok dance video. Now we’re back to the office, drinks with friends and family barbecues. So, what are we wearing now that we’re back on the streets?
If Covid-19 taught us anything about fashion, it's that if we could we would choose comfort over style. The infamous joke about wearing pajama bottoms or sweatpants paired with a “business” top to a Zoom meeting has some truth to it. In this post-Covid world, we’re done with real clothes and opting for more realistic options. This doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to be running around in our Nike tracksuits but more relaxed options like rompers and bodysuits seem to be taking precedence over more traditional pieces.
So what do these new clothing options look like? This Lulu’s Linen Blend Romper is a good example. The cool linen lets us breathe and the low-maintenance care for this romper is also a plus. It checks all the boxes: cool, no-fuss and versatile. We also love this Treasure & Bond Sleeveless Wide Leg Jumpsuit. It features a clean silhouette and a casual carefree essence that we would gladly trade our sweats for any day.
Fashion magazine Teen Vogue predicted last year that fashion would be changed forever due to the pandemic. For example people weren’t exactly concerned with purchasing lingerie during quarantine (surprise, surprise) but rather the spike in athleisure sales skyrocketed and we’re still seeing the aftermath of that on the streets. Leggings in particular have made a socially acceptable comeback with women (and even men) strutting their stuff in leggings like these Zella Live In High Waist Pocket 7/8 Leggings. We noticed that people are actually trying to elevate their leggings game by opting for faux leather options like these Spanx Faux Leather Leggings or these camouflage ones from Alo Viper. However you spin it, leggings are leggings and that will never change.
What else are people wearing during this time of reopening? In case you haven’t noticed, bodysuits are having a huge moment as well. With brands like Skims and Good American championing the effortless bodysuit we couldn’t help but feel like we’ve been seeing them everywhere and who could blame us? Bodysuits are the easiest item to grab and throw on with any skirt, shorts, denim, etc. Basically bodysuits were the unofficial mascot for quarantine and we don’t plan on tossing or donating them anytime soon. Our favorite bodysuit was the Skims Seamless Sculpt Low Back Thong Bodysuit. It sucks you in without the discomfort and really comes in handy post-Covid to hideaway those few extra pounds we gained from making too much sourdough. It can be worn under clothing or by itself with an oversized blazer. It’s versatile enough yet we feel naked while wearing it. What’s better than that?
What’s a girl to do when the entire last year she shopped for sweats and slippers and terry robes and now she’s expected to hit the streets with the latest trends? Well, good news for her, those trends are somewhat being taken seriously. Maybe keep the sweats at home but we noticed that rompers, jumpsuits, bodysuits and leggings now have a place on city avenues and post-quarantine style has changed socially acceptable style forever. What’s your go-to post-quarantine look? Do you think this “new normal” way of dressing is here to stay? Until next time.
Sincerely,
