What I’m Packing For My First Trip in Over a Year
Well, well, well. It’s been over a year since this whole Covid nightmare began and I’m finally taking a trip. I have played it safe as most of us have this past twelve months although it feels much longer than simply twelve months. After having both of my necessary vaccines, I decided it was time to treat myself to a long overdue getaway. It may seem like we had a lot of “rest” but in reality when I thought about it, stressing about a pandemic and all of its challenges isn’t really “rest” is it? I decided to take a trip to the wonderful place that is New York City. I leave in about a week but I’ve been planning outfits for this excursion for the last few months and I thought that this would be a good place, since we’re all friends here, to share what key pieces I’m bringing along with me! Let’s dive in.
Okay, so first things first, what am I going to wear on the plane and for my arrival in the Big Apple? I want to be comfortable yet chic at the same time in anticipation for any Instagram worthy flicks that I may take upon entering NYC. For this I’ve opted for a pretty basic but still cute fit: Oversize Pinstripe Blazer, biker shorts and this white t-shirt from Nordstrom. Practically all of these items have made it on one of the “Essentials” articles I’ve previously written. This outfit is cozy, but stylish and paired with my Yeezy slides which I wear practically every day, I’m set.
It’s inevitable that me and my best friend, the whole reason I’m going to NY, will be having brunch at least once. Brunch is half mimosas and half fashion show, so I gotta keep it cute. For this look I have packed my favorite pair of Thong Wedge Sandals. I practically planned this outfit just around this pair of square-toe heels. They’re the best slinky shoes that can be worn casually or in this case for a bit of sexy flair. I’m going to pair these with the Agolde Parker Distressed Denim Shorts and the Open Edit Satin Camp Shirt. Rather than just wear the Open Edit top straight, I’m going to wear a black bralette and tie this top to make a flirtatious crop top. After adding some layered silver and gold necklaces, I’m good to go for brunch.
Although many clubs and bars are still closed, there will of course be a couple nights out on the town. Whether it's an outdoor patio situation or just hanging on the balcony with a couple of martinis, I still have to dress the part right? Normally I would go for an “all black” look for going out at night but I’m trying to step outside of my comfort zone for this trip. I’m going to bring back those Thong wedges and pair it with this more-than-adorable In Bloom Jonquil Montclair Satin Chemise. It has this faded blue and pink floral print with cami straps and lace detailing. It comes halfway down the thighs and will be perfect for that warm, spring weather. *Fingers crossed.*
Hmmm I think I’ve covered everything. Oh! How could I forget? While in New York I have a few thrift shops that I’m looking forward to visiting, so I suppose I need a “thrifting outfit?” Is that even a thing? For my thrifting outfit I want to wear something comfortable and easy to change in and out of in case of the event that I’m trying on clothes that I really don’t need to buy. For this I’m thinking of grabbing a faded band tee, my favorite is this Travis Scott Astroworld shirt paired with Naked Wardrobe x Lori Harvey Sweatpants and some Adidas Slide Sandals. For all of these outfits I plan on wearing my Gucci Waist Bag in brown which is perfect for holding my lipstick, phone, cash, cards, you name it and it will fit! I look forward to sharing these pics from my trip over the next few weeks and as always I would love to hear from you all, my friends, on any tips and suggestions you think I may have missed. See you when I get back. Until next time.
Sincerely,
Kailyn Chadwick
