What Does Green Fashion Look Like Anyways?
The fashion industry has become an expert as of late on their quest to promote sustainability in fashion. That, and they’ve also become an expert at green washing as well. Meaning, brands promoting sustainability but actually not being sustainable at all. So, what does sustainable fashion actually look like in a world full of wannabe sustainable posers? We investigate...
Sustainability in fashion is definitely a complex issue, that goes without saying but there are many ways in which the industry is making positive changes. As customers, we can also play a role in supporting sustainable fashion by making conscious purchasing decisions and advocating for change within the industry.
Some simple ways are to invest in clothing that’s made from recyclable materials aka “sustainable materials.” We’ve been making sure to try and shop pieces like pants and shirts that are made from hemp and organic cotton among others. Also, it’s smart to invest in pieces that are high quality as opposed to fast fashion so that they last longer.
A lot of sustainable brands are also committed to upcycling their materials and using all of their fabrics and therefore having reduced waste. Finally, sustainability is more than just a public commitment, it’s a way of living so that’s why shopping from brands like Stella McCartney, Eileen Fisher and Mara Hoffman is a great way to stay fashionable as well as sustainable.
