Throwbacks

Fashion as we know is cyclical. Trends come and go and styles are constantly repeating themselves. Which is actually a great thing because some awesome trends have come from past decades and when they resurface it's like being reunited with an old friend. We’ve talked about clothing trends in the past that find their way back into our wardrobes and shopping bags, but what about make up trends? Bright shadows from the 80s, smudged liner from the 90s and the visible eyeliner from the 00’s. Looking back some of these make us shudder, but others we’re actually beginning to bring back to 2020.

The 2000s glowy, dewey look is one we are endorsing for a comeback. Think less contour and more of a natural glow that makes us look like we’ve been kissed by an angel. We look to Charlotte Tilbury and her instant Happy Glow Look to achieve magical eyes that brighten and glisten. Pair this with her Beauty Light Wand to target specific areas of the face that acts like an Instagram filter for your face. Tilbury guarantees this product is Hollywood in a bottle.

Now how about that “Rachel” lip. You know that signature brick red lipstick Rachel from Friends made infamous. Lately its been all about the nude look, which we completely stand behind, but what about we punch it up like so many celebs did from the 90s and bring back the bare makeup look with that deep reddish-brown lip. You can find the exact shade of red Ms. Green wore on the show at MAC Cosmetics. Look for the shade Paramount, a satin lip with medium coverage that will satisfy all of your Friends nostalgia. You may even find your “Ross” with this 90s gentle, fragrance-free lipstick.

Now you know we save our favorite for last, the smudged eye makeup look. For one, its easy and you don’tt even need a brush or any other makeup tool to pull it off. Simply take any eyeliner or eye powder and use your ring finger to brush it on your lids or under. After that, simple smudge it out, rub it out or spread it out using your finger! For a more flirtatious, spring look we opt for lighter colors like lilac or a matte gold but if you’re more on the darker side, perhaps a brown or a reddish tone would suit you best.

The great thing about this trend is that you can never have too little or too much. Now do you see? Do you see how rehashing the past can sometimes be a good thing? Three looks that cater to face, lips and eyes and they were only a couple decades away, but we found them and this time they’re here to stay.
