Giving Back
We’ve been thinking about the spirit of giving these past few months. And we’re not talking about giving “gifts” — although these are always a great idea! But we’ve been thinking about giving … back. For many, It’s not something that we necessarily do instinctively — it’s something that has to be nurtured. And so this week we asked ourselves, how do we nurture a spirit of giving back? How do we play our part in moving the needle on change?
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” — Mahatma Gandhi
We think there’s a big myth about change. Sometimes we think change has to be sweeping, with grand gestures and ground-breaking shifts. But change can also be subtle. It can be nestled in the little things. We think one of the key ingredients for change is consistency. And the same applies to nurturing that spirit of giving back. It starts with consistency — no matter how big or small our actions are — and intention.

Michelle Obama said it best. We have two obligations in this shared world — one to self, and one to the greater good. As we are all challenged to rise to a higher calling now more than ever, we are keeping this conversation going around creating a world for everyone — where everyone can live in dignity. This means ending inequality and racism. It means taking care of the environment. It means using whatever privilege we have to help those who may be less privileged. Part of this process, we believe, involves nurturing a spirit of giving back. We need all hands on deck. How will you give back this week? Let’s keep sharing and keep this conversation going.
