Sugar Sweet Curls
Tired of heavy gels and sprays weighing your curls down? Well, perhaps this easy DIY spray that only calls for two ingredients is the solution to save your curls, time and money. That solution is sugar water. Yes, you read that correctly, sugar water. How exactly is sugary water going to save your curls you ask? Sugar is a natural humectant, meaning it attracts and retains moisture. When used in hair, it can help hold your curls in place while maintaining flexibility and softness. Plus, it won't leave your hair feeling stiff or weighed down but instead you will have soft, defined curls that last all day.
All you need is one cup of warm water, two tablespoons of granulated sugar, a spray bottle and a few drops of your favorite essential oil is also optional for fragrance but certainly not required. You’re going to want to start by combining your water and sugar together in a bowl and mixing until the sugar is completely dissolved, which is the most important factor in making your solution. At this point you can add a few drops of your essential oil for fragrance if you wish but it’s not essential. Next, you're going to transfer the solution to your spray bottle. Before you spray your sugar water onto your hair, make sure your hair is wet or at least damp and section your hair and spray the water 6-8 inches away from your sections and gently scrunch.
You don’t want to drench your hair but rather coat it which will encourage your curls to form. Repeat this process until your entire head is coated and scrunched and then you can proceed to let your hair air dry or use a diffuser to speed up the drying process. Once your hair is dry, you can lightly separate your curls and at this point assess if you’re satisfied with the shape and the hold. You can then spray some more of your sugar water as a finishing touch but just use your best judgment to not go overboard. What do you think of this cost-effective, DIY curl spray?
