Smells Like Bliss
Out of all of our senses, smell is the only one that allows us to time travel. Okay maybe not literally but that’s how I feel when I smell a scent that reminds me of another time. I’m instantly transported back to a previous time. Sometimes I catch the scent that reminds me of an old boyfriend that I dated in adolescence. It’s happened before and it makes me smile and reminisce on that time and the innocence that accompanied it. When I get a whiff of ocean mist it takes me back to playing on the beach with cousins and that salty air that sticks to your hair and your skin all day and night. I’ve even chosen my own perfumes based on some of these treasured memories. I think that every little girl remembers their mother or even their grandmother’s perfume and those vivid scenes and emotions come flooding back when we catch that certain scent. I think that’s why scents like gardenia and rose are so prominent in my own perfume collection. I carry them with me wherever I go in my own special way.
