Let’s Talk: Mascara
So it may seem to the untrained eye that all mascaras are the same and essentially function in the same way. We’re here to tell you that this is in fact not true. In fact, what is true is that just as there is a foundation for every skin need and an eyeliner for every catwing, tight line and facial freckle, there is a mascara for every lash.
First, Consider your lash type. Are they long, short, straight, or curly? Different mascaras are designed for different lash types, so it's important to consider what you're working with. For example, if you have straight lashes, you may want to choose a mascara that's designed to hold a curl. And if you have short lashes you would want something that lengthens and if they’re sparse then a mascara for thickening. The list goes on but you get the idea. Shop based on need.
Then you want to consider the wand because that has a great influence on how the formula will be applied and this can also vary based on your type of lashes. If you want definition and each lash to be perfectly coated then you’ll want to opt for a spiral brush. Or, if you desire full and fluffy then choose a mascara wand that is thick and dense. If you want longer lashes then choose a brush with short bristles. Essentially, what you aim for in your lash look is a good indicator of what brush to use.
Finally, pay attention to the formula. The formula can determine if the mascara will flake, or if it will volumize or lengthen. Also, do you want a waterproof formula? Do you have a sensitive eye area and need something hypoallergenic? Or do you want something nourishing that’s packed with vitamins and oils to promote lash health? Luckily, there’s a mascara on the market that can meet many of these demands and concerns at once. You just gotta get out there and find it...kind of like Goldilocks but with lashes. Good luck!
