How To Style Sweatpants This Summer
I’m not just talking about your Fruit of the Loom or Hanes men’s sweatpant. I’m talking about your joggers, your cropped sweatpants, your drawstring, your elastic waist and even the pocketed sweatpants. Bet you didn’t know there was even such a variety of sweatpants, but there is. Is the word “sweatpants” starting to sound weird now? The point is, sweatpants used to represent notions of defeat or laziness when in the world of fashion they have become a heavy hitter and even a coveted item that any wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without. Today, I want to share with you my favorite sweatpants and how to style them for this upcoming summer.
The Matching Set
First off, these sweats I’ve just discovered and I was surprised how much I fell in love with them. The Print Sweatpants by Adidas by Stella McCartney come in two flavors, both of which I have purchased which is surprising because the shade Aciyel/Pearos is a loud highlighter yellow-esque print which I usually stray from, but I actually quite like it. Since these pants are an expressive print I would opt for a crisp white tee, white trainers and the matching sweatshirt that pairs with this printed set. It’s a quick, chic street style look that is anything but defeated or lazy.
The Blazer Moment
Looking for a look more elevated? Let’s see how we can turn these Topshop Harley Classic Joggers into a more refined and chic item. It’s simple really and in fact if you’ve been following me for even a few weeks now you could probably already guess what I’m going to say. Yes, add a blazer! It's so simple and so easy but so, so stylish. I can’t resist a good blazer moment whether it’s oversized or relaxed, it doesn’t matter in this case. For these joggers I would add a white button down shirt, black blazer of your favorite fit and then opt for a black Chelsea platform combat boot. Instantly your look is taken from lacking to remarkable and it only took a few items that you probably already own and if you don’t they are a part of my Essentials series and you should definitely get into purchasing them. You can see my Essentials Part One here.
The Retro Vibe
I save the best for last. An easy and effortless take for the ultimate “cool girl” style couldn’t be more simple than this last styling pair. Right now I’m really into the retro vibe and pairing hi-low garments with one another so that’s why this pair of Good American Terry Fleece Wide Leg Sweatpants is so fabulous for this final look. I have these sweatpants in two shades: Black001 and Heather Gray 001. They are a relaxed fit and high waisted with wide leg tailoring. I simply pair these joggers with a sleek bodysuit and throw on my favorite trench coat and sleek square toe heels. Instantly, I have a look that is top-drawer and first class....basically you aren’t even paying attention to the fact that you’re still in the sweats you were lounging in all day at home. Rather, you’re taking the town in an unforgettable outfit that you are sure to repeat.
There you have it. It’s only three looks out of dozens and dozens of possibilities but they are three solid, tried and trusted looks that I can’t wait to wear on those summer nights where it’s too warm for a jacket but just cool enough for a pair of chic joggers, and perhaps a blazer ;). What are your go-to sweatpant looks? Let me know if there’s anything I’m forgetting and as always, until next time.
Sincerely,
The Closet Correspondent
