How to Layer Pieces, Like a Fashion Pro
Can you believe it’s almost Fall?! It's time to pull out the boots, scarves and beanies and pile on those layers. We thought this is a good opportunity for us to give some quick tips on how to pull off the layered look this fall/winter season.
The Foundation
The great thing about a layered outfit is that you create a base consisting of a good pair of bottoms and a top that you can build your look from. Ideally, throughout the week you can keep this foundation and switch out other layering tops and accessories over the course of a few days and have a different outfit each day. Since we’re moving into the autumn season, we love these Altuzarra Timo Pant. Leather is usually too hot for the summer months but perfect for the colder seasons and they’re such a contemporarily chic option for bottoms.
Usually with pants, if you don’t stain them or get them dirty, they are an ideal pant you can wear throughout the week. We also love these Elie Saab Crepe Pants. The black horizontal insertions on the hemline just adds that subtle pop of detail that adds a pop of vintage flair.
The Top
Okay, let’s talk tops. As we already said and as we know, temperatures are going to start dropping, so what’s a good way to layer on that warmth without having the bulkiness that can come from awkward layering? A bodysuit. We love a bodysuit and in this case they serve more as a functional piece than a fashionable one but we’re still going to keep it chic and cute. This cut out embroidered tulle Bodysuit is basically a second skin that is perfect for layering.
From here we can really have some fun. We like to layer on top of our bodysuit either a crewneck, hoodie or sweater that shows some personality. Since it is autumn, this Plaid Button-Up Shirt from Marina Moscone is great to layer under a fun sweater like this Altuzarra Lagune Sweater. This adds dimension to your look and accentuates the different layers.
Next you have two options: layer on a jacket and call it a day or push the envelope and add another lighter jacket and a coat on top of that. Let’s explore option number two just for fun. We like the idea of adding a lightweight blazer such as this Slim Boyfriend from Marina Moscone. An added “chic” tip would be to just drape the wool sweater fashionably over your shoulders and call it a day. Finally, add a pair of gloves, a scarf or even a beanie as some finishing touches on your layered look and voila - the perfect layered autumn outfit.
