D.I.Y. in 1,2,3
“If I want it done right, then I have to do it myself.” We’ve all heard that phrase before haven’t we? Sometimes we have to take matters into our own hands to get the desired results we want whether it's cooking our special chocolate chip cookie recipe or cleaning our apartment the only way we know how to get everything clean and sparkling. Today we want to talk about how when it comes to fashion, sometimes doing a little DIY turns out better than if we were to order a product online or from the store. Plus, it can just be so much more fun and rewarding to make your own unique creation all on your own.
The Perfect Top
We’ve all seen those cute silk sleeveless tops that seemed to decorate the walls and feeds of our social media apps this summer. Usually silk or satin these tops have retailed for as high as $120 on some sites. But did you know you can probably make this top yourself at home with an item you probably already own? Oh, you didn’t? Well, here’s how. First, you’re going to need a scarf. We love the satin material for this top because it makes it sexy and shininess has a nice flair to it. We’re using this fun and retro Burberry Logo Archive Print Silk Twill Scarf for our luxurious DIY top buy you can use one of your own that you probably have laying around somewhere in your wardrobe. Take the scarf and fold it in half diagonally so that it makes a triangle shape. Next, tie it around the front of your chest so that the long, horizontal side is on top and tie in the back. Simple right? Pair this top with your favorite black pants and leather jacket for an edgy but sexy look.

Did you think that there was only one way to style a silk scarf? Well, you are sorely mistaken. Another favorite of ours is a silk scarf fashioned into a halter top. In a couple easy steps using the same scarf or a different one you can have a chic top that is great for a night of fun and friends or even a trip to the market. Use the same silk scarf or a different one, we’re using this St. John Border Print Silk Twill Scarf for a more minimalist and modern vibe. What you’re going to do is take two corners on the same side of the scarf and tie them together to make a hole that your head can fit through. Slip your head in and take the other two corners and tie them in the back. Adjust according to how much of your midsection to show (or not) and voila! You have a chic halter top that is one of a kind. Pair with your favorite pair of high waisted denim, combat boots and oversize blazer to complete the look.
