Diving In
Hello all! I’m so happy to be here again this week to share with you some quick, easy and affordable tips you can use right now to transform your closet. These tips are ones that I use when I am restructuring my closet and I am super excited to share them with you. Most likely you will already own some of these items, but if not they are definitely sold at your local general merchandise retailer or even the dollar store. These tricks I’m sharing today are more focused on transforming the aesthetic of your closet and how to display your clothing items in a visually pleasing fashion. So, let’s not waste anymore time and dive head first into our closets.
My tried and true go-to organizing hack is easy and this probably won’t be the first time you’ve heard it, but nonetheless I’m going to mention it here. Organizing your hanging clothes in your closet by color is the easiest and most polished way to display your garments. Some people try to organize by clothing item type (i.e. sweaters with sweaters, vests with vests, etc.) but visually this appears to be cluttered and in-cohesive. In my closet I like to start with the left side and I start with my lightest colors, so in this case all of my whites. Then I transition to beiges, browns, reds, blues and blacks.
Everyone’s closet palette varies so everyone’s approach will be different. It’s also worth mentioning that it doesn’t matter how you arrange your color blocking, as long as there's a clear definition and separation of color you’re good to go. I find that when my closet is organized using this method that it's also so much easier to find the garments I’m looking for when I’m getting ready because I can easily spot that brown blouse or that red sweater.
My next tip is another easy one: hangers. Keeping my clothes hanging on matching hangers across the board significantly changes the appearance of your closet. I personally prefer the felt hangers in all white because I love that my clothes don’t slip around or fall off the hangers and I love the color white because it's crisp, clean and makes my closet look modern. However, you can have fun here and choose the color and style that works for you but make sure you purchase enough hangers so that all of your garments are consistent. I would also suggest that you stock up on some extra hangers so that as your closet expands you’re sure to still have matching hangers at the ready. Your closet will not only have a uniform coordinated look but it will also appear clean and tidy.
Our last tip for today is another obvious one, but one that truly saved my life. I personally have lots of miscellaneous items that don’t really have a designated place in my space. Items such as scarves, bags and purses I don’t use regularly and awkward seasonal items such as beanies and gloves need a place too. Investing in matching baskets that can be stored on a shelf above my hanging items or even on top of an armoire are essential. I want to make sure they are matching, come in a variety of sizes and matching the decor of my room and hangers that I use for my clothes. Being able to gather these random and often awkward items and throw them in a basket helps me to clean up the clutter but know where these items are when I do need them. Keeping in consistency with the color matching my hangers only makes my closet appear neat and orderly and that’s just the way I like it. With that being said, these are three easy closet organizational tips to get you started on the journey to a perfect closet. These pointers are quick, easy and affordable ways to instantly spruch up any closet space. Get busy, get started and we’ll pick up from where we left off next week.
