An Unexpected Fall Accessory - The Scarf

During the summer, we find that the rising temperatures can regulate our use of accessories. We go from layers of scarves, headbands and hats in the winter, to anklets and rings to match our pastel manicures in the summer. Personally, we prefer our winter wardrobe over our warmer months wardrobe solely based on the fact that we find it more versatile, allowing us to play with new styles and trends. However, there is one accessory that we find transcends seasonal barriers and in some ways can actually help us combat the sun and the heat. Ladies, we’re talking about the scarf.

Okay, yes we said scarf but it's not your typical winter warmer upper. Instead, it's the lightweight summer scarf you’ll want to wear all summer long in any way possible. Caution, you may find yourself purchasing droves of scarves after reading this article so don’t say we didn’t warn you! Now, let's get into it, and by “it” we mean u

“I’ve always thought of accessories as the exclamation point of a woman’s outfit.”

One of our favorite as well as functional ways to style a scarf in the sunny season is to take a handkerchief scarf and weave it through our hair. We like to pull our hair back into a sem-loose braid and then wrap the ascot through the plaits for a hint of color and braid upgrade. So maybe a braid isn’t so much your style but loose waves flowing in the wind is, perhaps a headband scarf is more your look. Wrapping one around the front of your forehead and you have Woodstock vibes, but wrap one around the top of the head and you can achieve more polished preppy vibes. If you’re not too crazy about hair accessories, the handkerchief scarf is still chic as a necktie choker or loosened for an easy on/off style.

Just because we said summer wasn’t our favorite time of year doesn’t mean we’re throwing it out altogether , no this is not the case at all. We love to indulge in certain trends, trends like sun tans and bohemian earrings or spaghetti strap tanks and espadrilles. Turns out when it comes to styling a scarf in the summer we can have fun with summer prints and colors and our go-to print of choice would have to be the tropical print. Yes it's a bit cliche, no we don’t care. You can also find us wearing scarves in bandana print, polka dot print and tie dye print but that’s a topic for another time. No, today we want to talk about tropical print, you know, your “grandpa’s favorite Hawaiian shirt” print. The summer scarf and this print go hand-in-hand and we love to style it with an oversized silk scarf that can double as a sarong on the hottest of days at the beach and as an over-the-shoulders drape to keep the chill away by the sunset bonfire.

We have major love for the all-purpose serving summer scarf. Not only is it functional, but it can take a basic outfit of denim shorts andSalva a t-shirt to the next level. Between the infinite choices of prints and infinite ways of styling this garment, we’re beginning to reconsider the winter months as our favorite time of the year. Isn’t it funny how an accessory can make or break a season?
